A cycling tour designed for active and experienced mountain bikers who want to enjoy unspoiled nature while exploring the rich history of the peaks surrounding Ilirska Bistrica.
Route: Ilirska Bistrica–Črne Njive–Velika Milanja–Štanga–Sv. Ahac–Stražica–Ilirska Bistrica
The tour is 30 km long and includes over 1,000 m of ascents. This tour is intended for experienced mountain bikers seeking a challenge and enjoyment in riding single tracks. Along the route, we’ll enjoy downhill rides on single tracks and then climb to the next peaks.
The first stop is on the ridge of Velika Milanja, an area of high karst meadows that form part of the Natura 2000 network. Here, we will explore the fortification system of the Alpine Wall from the period between the First and Second World Wars.
On the way, we’ll visit the hill of Sv. Ahac, where we’ll discover remnants of an Iron Age hillfort and the church of St. Ahac. On the summit of Stražica, we’ll encounter dry stone walls from late antiquity, while at the end of the tour, we’ll visit the hillfort at Draga, one of the largest Iron Age hillforts with traces of Castellieri culture.
During the tour, there will be several stops to rest, enjoy the views, and explore historical landmarks.

Equipment:
- A technically sound mountain bike (with at least front suspension)

- Personal equipment for touring cyclists (first aid kit, food, sufficient water, insect repellent)
- Due to the characteristic karst terrain (sharp rocks, thorns), it is essential to carry a pump, at least one spare inner tube, and a repair kit.

The price includes guided tours led by a professionally trained and experienced guide, who ensures safety, provides first aid in case of an accident, and repairs bikes on-site when needed and feasible.
