CURIOUS KARST EXPLORERS WE KNOW HOW WONDERS ARE FORMED
We have entered a world of natural wonders, and now we want to know everything! How did these caves and stalactites form? Who lives in the eternal darkness of the caves? How did people even discover that there is a different world beneath the earth's surface? We find out all of this when we become karst explorers!
At the Notranjska Museum in Postojna, we can touch the stalactites that we usually only observe in caves. We see the skeletons of cave bears and other Ice Age animals, and we observe the tiny inhabitants of the caves under a microscope. An interactive museum book guides us through the exhibition, while the playroom, medieval corner, and various games invite us to playful stops.
The Expo Cave Karst exhibition reveals, in an interactive way, how the extraordinary Postojna Cave was formed. The youngest visitors are accompanied by the olm and the cave beetle Leptodirus hochenwartii, and they can also try riding the cave train.
At the Lake Cerknica Visitor Center, we are fascinated by the story of how this unusual lake was formed, and through a video presentation, we learn about its changes throughout the seasons.
The Jezerski Hram Museum of Lake Cerknica surprises us with a live model that shows how the lake fills and empties. Finally, we understand why it is sometimes the largest intermittent lake in Europe and at other times just a dry field!
