HELLO, BIRDS AND WILD NATURE
Which bird drums like a drummer? And why does it enjoy living near Lake Cerknica? Are there really black storks besides the white ones? Which bird of prey loves to hunt for its food on large lakes? Can we learn how some birds sound? Of course.
In the Lake Cerknica Visitor Center, we are constantly surrounded by chirping, tweeting, and many other often unusual bird calls. At the lake, a popular stop for migratory birds, half of all bird species living in Europe have been spotted so far! You can also learn about their habitats and migration routes in the ornithological classroom of the Jezerski Hram in Dolenje Jezero.
We also hear many bird sounds during guided walks through the wild nature of the Inner Carniolan forests. An experienced guide leads us among the tracks of various animals, and on the 3 to 4-hour journey, we are sure to encounter some. We can also experience animal calls during the Night in the Forest event in Loška Dolina or on the themed nature interpretation trail in Gornje Poljane.
You can explore the Drvošec Trail independently, featuring many educational points, observation posts, and the Otočec lookout tower, or take the Mašun Forest Educational Trail, which also introduces forest birds.
