Snežnik is the highest peak of the Slovenian Karst and also the highest Slovenian mountain outside of the Alps. With its three peaks capped with snow late into spring it can be seen from most of the other mountain peaks in Slovenia. Snežnik itself also offers amazing views of a large chunk of Slovenia, Istria and the bays of Trieste and Kvaerner. Due to the exceptional natural beauty and the extremely rich flora, the peak of Snežnik has been protected as a botanical preserve. Many trails lead to the top of the mountain, the most popular one starting from Sviščaki. There are two buildings on top of Snežnik - a bivouac and the Drago Karolin Mountain Hut, where hikers can buy refreshments and rest before making their descent.
