The Smrekar Homestead in Grobišče near Postojna is set inside a renovated barn building and invites guests to indulge in the local cuisine made with ingredients grown at their organic farm and other neighbouring farms. It is an ideal place for the whole family to stay and explore the Green Karst for a few days as it offers accommodation in an apartment for six people and five multiple-bed rooms, which are named after the former members of the homestead and are outfitted with furniture made of spruce wood. One room is handicapped accessible. Their culinary specialties include cold cuts from their homemade meats, cheeses from the neighbouring farms, quail eggs and bread from their wood-fired oven. Very highly-rated are also their dishes made from the organically farmed meat of the native Slovenian Cika Cattle, Istrian donkey and Krško polje pig. They are especially famous for their donkey goulash and veal stew. The homestead’s 22 ha of land is used to farm spelt and buckwheat, field crops, herbs, and various fruits which are made into juices, jams and spirits. They are striving to one day become a completely self-sufficient homestead. Everything that grows on their land and is bred in their barns is part of their culinary offer.
