Green Karst

Marko Smole is connected to the Loška Valley and Notranjska through his ancestors, who lived in the Čebar area, but as traders they were for several centuries connected with  Kolpa Valley, the Kvarner hinterland and central Slovenia with Notranjska and Kočevje areas and their inhabitants (Slovenes, Croats and Kočevje Germans). He is the head of an interesting ethnological collection and the private cultural center Palčava šiša in Plešci, in Croatia. He leads ethnological research workshops, which every year investigate the material and intangible cultural heritage in the border area of ​​Slovenia and Croatia, connected by former trade routes for centuries. An important area of ​​his interest are, in addition to the old freight routes, which are easiest to follow by bicycle or on foot, the stories of the architectural heritage and mythological stories in the area - the latter testify to the persistent remains of pre-Christian beliefs. Through these contents, it can take you to many hidden but interesting corners and views that you would otherwise miss.

He leads tourist trips, professional excursions, hikes, bicycle hiking trips and other trips - they can also be longer, primary school and secondary school cultural and sports days, camping trips, connectsing the cultural heritage with the locals, their customs, culinary, stories and activities, and the natural environment.

Main geographic area he is covering: Notranjska - karst region (municipalities of Loška dolina, Bloke, Cerknica, Postojna, Logatec, Pivka, Ilirska Bistrica) with connections to Kočevska (municipalities of Loški potok, Osilnica, Kočevje, Kostel), Kolpa valley area, Gorski kotar and Kvarner in Croatia.
