Alenka Veber, Univ. B.Sc. soc. del., was born on May 31, 1968 in Piran. She spent her childhood and early youth in her parents' hometown - in Babne Polje in Notranjska. After finishing high school in Postojna, she continued her studies in Ljubljana in 1988. From October 1991 to April 2018, she was employed full-time as an editor of book editions at the oldest Slovenian publishing house, Celjski Mohorjevi družba.
In 2018, after thirty-five years of homesickness and thirty years of living and working in Ljubljana, she decided to return home permanently and devote herself fully to the work at the institute she founded in 2011.
She is the author of several hundred popular articles on Slovenian cultural and natural heritage, but above all she is an amateur ethnologist, photographer and tourist guide, mentor of study groups and lecturer.
She named the non-governmental and non-profit institution after the homestead name of the homestead where she grew up - Zavod Rihtarjeva homestead, an institution for education, culture, entertainment and recreation, and tourism.
The institute is engaged in work in the field of education, lifelong learning, tourism, interpretation and preservation of cultural and natural heritage, sustainable development of the countryside and coexistence with nature, organization of leisure, entertainment and recreational activities as well as cultural, research, publishing, information and communication activities.
The purpose of the institute is to help people and other organizations in achieving improvement in the quality of life on a physical, mental and spiritual level. The institute tries to achieve this by organizing educational events, organizing occasional museum exhibitions, leading professional excursions and hikes, by giving lectures and by issuing and publishing publications in the fields of culture, natural heritage, ethnology, anthropology, history, ecology and tourism.
