Nanos, a high Karst plateau, has for centuries represented the natural border between the continental part of Slovenia and its coastal territory. There are several marked mountaineering and other trails on the slopes of Nanos. Once you reach the top, you can get food and drink from the Vojko Mountain Hut (1240 m), which is open from the start of June to the end of September. Nanos is an extremely popular hill for day hikes as the top of the plateau offers amazing views of the Green Karst and the Vipava Valley, all the way to Nova Gorica and the Sabotin Hill. Nanos is also a part of the long-distance hiking trails Via Dinarica and Via Alpina, and the E6 European long-distance path.
