Honey Tasting Experience: A Journey Through Nature's Nectar

In a world brimming with culinary delights, few can match the sheer diversity and natural sweetness of honey. The Honey Tasting Experience we offer is a unique and immersive journey into the fascinating world of apiculture, where you'll explore the history, culture, and rich flavours of this golden elixir. From a delightful tasting of various honey varieties to a hands-on visit to a local apiary, and even a cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR) experience depicting the secret life of bees, this tour promises to be a multisensory adventure.

The Honey Tasting Experience takes place at Belakapa, a tourist accommodation located in Koseze near Ilirska Bistrica, which, in addition to accommodation in an authentically renovated house that is more than 250 years old, also offers honey and other experiences.

The house beekeeper Andrej will guide you through the tasting of different types of honey, of each has a special taste and characteristics. We usually taste floral, chestnut, acacia and forest honey, but maybe you will be surprised with some specialty or the last honey harvest.

The art of beekeeping is ancient, dating back thousands of years. Andrej will acquaint you with stories about the history and cultural significance of bees and honey, from antiquity to modern times, because the bee family hides many secrets.

Special emphasis will also be devoted to Slovenian history and innovations in the field of beekeeping, especially the so-called AŽ hive, because the constructor of this one, Anton Žnideršič, was born in Ilirska Bistrica.

Price: EUR 50 per person for couples, EUR 40 per person for groups of three to four people and EUR 30 per person for groups of five to eight people. Reservation is mandatory.

We can design the experience according to your wishes (e.g. it is possible to add a visit to an apiary and get to know the bee family, a visit and guided tour of the permanent exhibition in the Bee House in Il. Bistrica, a workshop for making beeswax candles...).
