BENEATH THE EARTH'S SURFACE BY TRAIN OR BOAT
Do dragons and their offspring really live in karst caves? Let’s find out! Exploring karst caves is an exciting family adventure every time. On the walls of the caves and in the shapes of the stalactites and stalagmites, stories of special heroes await us. Guides point them out, or we discover them ourselves by the light of our headlamps. Once we learn about the underground world, we visit its famous resident – the olm.
In the Postojna Cave, children are thrilled by the ride through the cave on a special electric train that travels along a circular railway. The 3.7-kilometer ride through passages and halls adorned with stalactites is perfect even for the youngest family members. After returning from the cave, we enter the Vivarium and meet the cave dwellers who can live in complete darkness. We also encounter dragon offspring! This is how the olm, a unique creature that can survive without food for years, was once described.
In the Križna Cave, with its many underground lakes, we embark on a family adventure by boat and with a guide. We are equipped with rubber boots and rechargeable lamps as we head into the darkness, home to more than 50 animal species and the bones of cave bears. It will be unforgettable!
